The Idea of Disabilities and Capitalism

Is the idea of people having disabilities rooted in capitalism we know today? It appears to me, at least, that it became more of a thing beginning in the industrial revolution of people who could "function normally" in a factory or field were deemed normal and people who couldn't were/are viewed as abnormal or disabled. Disabled people are essentially marginalized for not being able to "function properly" or "adequately" in a factory or field to produce goods within capitalistic society. Maybe I'm thinking too much into this. If the question doesn't make sense to anyone or worded poorly, I'll try to clarify.

your question makes total sense to me and i think the answer to your initial question is yes.

the entire premise of ability/able bodied-ness is the capacity to perform up to a standard, one that is atomized (we can't count on being able to depend on anyone) and work based.
so, yes.

your question makes total sense to me and i think the answer to your initial question is yes.

it is capricious. also, the user interface has just significantly changed and old farts like me are scrambling to keep up. I'd encourage up-voting and best-answering until you change your mind. You should always be able to reverse or edit your shit.

i un-bested because there is only one answer. best can only apply when there are multiple answers, i think.

it's totally possible that more people will answer over time. this site is a slow-cooker, one of those soup pots that gets better and better as you go along. (well, it is that for me, anyway :) )
