Personally, I hate questions so abstract as to not even indicate who-where-when-why-how-what. For instance, as ingrained as the need for authority/hierarchy (aka 'The Bawss') seemingly is for Americans, does this requirement translate as such to everyone on the planet? In short, is this 'need' applicable everywhere, to everyone, always? Apparently not. Certain outlooks; perspectives of self, of others, of living with/around/among each other are required in order to even formulate such a question in the first place. In my opinion, the very terms (presuppositions) of the question are...well...shitty.
As we speak, it seems that some folks are making attempts to stymie, not only the conditions which allow for 'strongmen' to arise, but the very miserable outlook which sees The Bawss as a need in the first place. How this will turn out I have no idea. Is it a place I'd like to live? Don't know for sure. But, with all the dead weight of Bawssism (in it's myriad formulations) upon the world this tiny crack actualizing even smallish possibilities beyond managerial presumptions is refreshing to hear.
Oh yeah... cops and military are strongmen by definition.
