Frankly, my head goes numb whenever someone, usually a soldier and/or republican, says this kind of shit as a justification for the state and its military. Anyone have a favorite response, funny or otherwise, to this bullshittery?

I try not to antagonize people who are quick to use force to end an argument.
I mean, hey, one can always do the same.

It isn't. Emma rights are never given they have to be taken that means by force if necessary.
We know suffering and death is paid for freedom all the time. Conservatives are just paying to be oppressed the price is about the same though  sacrifice death and suffering. I think the difference is our goal of freedom equality and solidarity is actually worth it.

If I feel snarky (and I usually do) I tend to suggest that it might not be free, but that can't stop me from shoplifting.

I mean really, this sort of statement is inane, and indicates that we are discussing tow very different concepts of "freedom." If I feel like it is worth it, I might choose to follow my snark up with a conversation about the differences in our perspectives, though this rarely proves to be successful.

Just tell them "you're right, it takes an awful lot of dead cops and soldiers".
