What is an example of a country where the rule of law has faded out?

The only one I can think of is Somalia. But even there, once the government's law faded out, it was replaced by militia rule. So I don't know if that helps. I don't think any people in modern times have lived completely without some rule of law.

It's the completely part that is important there, some tribal societies live almost independent of central government control and are only subject to the law in so much as when they defend themselves from the onslaught of things like logging and development they are suppressed by the state that promotes such activity.

somalia is hardly a place where law "faded".
